HARRISBURG, Pa. — A western Pennsylvania woman is getting another chance to keep her $280,000 home after it was auctioned over $6.30 in interest owed to the local tax collection authority.
Commonwealth Court on Monday sent the case back to Beaver County Common Pleas Court, saying it was a mistake to rule against Eileen Battisti without first holding an evidentiary hearing.
Battisti’s lawyer says the woman lives in her Aliquippa home though it was sold nearly two years ago to S.P. Lewis of Imperial for about $116,000.
The court says the lack of a hearing was “particularly inappropriate” because what she owed was so small and her suburban Pittsburgh house worth much more than Lewis paid.
Messages seeking comment Monday were left for Lewis, his lawyer and the Beaver County solicitor’s office.
