SOMERSWORTH, N.H. — A woman backing a pickup truck out of her driveway accidentally killed her elderly mother.
Jan Kilgore said she checked for traffic before starting to back out of her driveway Saturday morning but didn’t see her mother, 78-year-old Gloria Littlefield.
She said her mother may have just started to cross the street from the opposite side.
“I think we both just moved at the same time,” Kilgore said.
Littlefield suffered internal injuries and was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Kilgore said her mother had recovered from a stroke, was weak on one side and suffered from “a touch” of Alzheimer’s disease. They lived together in Somersworth in eastern New Hampshire.
Police Sgt. Matthew Duval said Kilgore likely will not face criminal charges.
“It was just a horrible accident,” he said.
