TOPPENISH — The focus of a new Yakama tribal jail in Toppenish is rehabilitation.

It includes classrooms where inmates can study.

Chief of Corrections Gene Fenton told KIMA that it will also hold juvenile offenders who previously have been sent to Spokane.

The Yakama Nation is hiring 24 corrections officers to run the jail.

A Justice Department grant paid for the $15 million jail, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs covers daily operations.
