YAKIMA — The Yakima City Council is backtracking on plans to allow growing, processing and selling recreational marijuana in the city.
Councilwoman Maureen Adkison changed her mind from a previous vote in October, prompting the change in direction.
The Yakima Herald-Republic reported she’s concerned legalized marijuana will make it easier for young people to acquire the drug, even though the age limit is 21.
Council members approved a motion Tuesday night asking the staff to draft a prohibition. Opponents say it opens Yakima to litigation over conflict with state law.
