Young person seen with gun at Stanwood High School

STANWOOD — Police converged at Stanwood High School on Wednesday afternoon after a former student reportedly was seen on campus with a gun.

The former student, a 17-year-old boy, was showing the gun to another student, according to police.

No information about the person’s description was immediately available.

The incident was reported about 12:30 p.m.

Investigators believed the person fled campus. The search was ongoing as of 2:30 p.m.

School dismissal also was running late, though the alternative high school had been dismissed.

“Police say they don’t believe the student body or public are in imminent danger, but have locked down the building as a precautionary measure,” Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Shari Ireton said.

Stanwood Police Chief Rick Hawkins and deputies from the sheriff’s School Services Unit remained at the scene Wednesday.
