SEATTLE — The Washington State Patrol says a person fleeing a trooper jumped off the 520 bridge near Seattle into Lake Washington.
KOMO-TV reported a state trooper stopped to help the driver of a vehicle that became disabled about halfway across the bridge Monday night when a license plate check revealed that the vehicle was stolen.
The state patrol said as the driver realized he might be arrested, he ran and tried to jump from one bridge span to the other, not realized there is a large space between them.
Officials say he fell about 60 feet into the water.
The trooper called for a rescue boat as the person splashed and yelled for help.
A harbor patrol boat crew pulled him from the water. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation and booked into jail on a felony warrant.
