A list of some freedoms taken

Regarding the letter “What freedoms have been taken?”: I offer a short summary. We’re not free to purchase whatever insurance coverage we wish or none at all. We’re no longer free to visit our state or county parks; we have to pay for that now. We can’t ride without helmets, seat-belts, or talk without Bluetooths stuck in our ears, or throw our kids in the back of the truck with their bikes. Millions of Americans used to do those things without hurting anyone. We can’t apply for tax- exempt status without facing intrusions based solely on our political views. We can’t protest or pray too close to abortion clinics. Prayer is permitted in fewer places and times by the government every year. We can’t repair a culvert on our property without paying the department of ecology to study it first. We can’t play with guns, fingers, sticks, sandwiches or anything that even looks like a gun anywhere near a school. We can’t board a plane without a random strip search. We can’t live according to our religious beliefs if it interferes with the government distributing birth control and free abortions at our expense, or if it means refusing to provide services for an unbiblical marriage. You may not agree we should be allowed to do some of those things. That’s the point. Unless we agree with your views we’re not free to live as we please anymore. Welcome to the new America.
