I want to thank the Washington state Legislature from the bottom of my heart for recently holding a legislative session in which not a single piece of legislation was passed. Now, granted this was only a “special session” but it’s still a darn good start.
In a state as heavily regulated as ours, I find it refreshing that for once our Legislature was able to resist the temptation (though not intentionally) to place any further bureaucratic burdens upon our citizens and their private sector employers.
I am aware that this session was for the stated purpose of passing a state budget and that inevitably they will have to keep trying until they finally get it right. Nevertheless, it was refreshing to live through a week in which the citizens of our evergreen state were permitted to go on living without any new laws, regulations, or taxes thrust down their throats.
Now, if only the Legislature had to live the way my employer and college teachers expect me to; when you’re given a job or an assignment with a deadline part of doing your job (and keeping it) is getting your work done on time!
Then our government would be as great as the people they claim to represent.
