Yes, guns kill, but only when the trigger is pulled. They don’t become possessed like out of a Steven King novel. It takes living people to pull the trigger.
Hunters use them to kill meat. Ranchers use them to kill predators. They are used for personal protection in the wilderness; it’s not good being eaten by a grizzly bear. The military and police use them to kill or maim bad guys. Sportsmen use them in multiple forms of competition; skeet, target, fast draw, barrel racing on a horse (they shoot balloons). There are even Olympic sports that use guns. These are the responsible gun owners, and there are millions of them.
Every gun legally purchased in Washington state is registered. The National Instant Criminal Background Check System at www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/nics is utilized before anyone takes possession. Nor can one be purchased on line without receiving it through a Federal Firearm Licensed dealer who is by law, required to use the same background check.
It’s just ignorant to say that guns are only used for killing or guns kill people (not people kill people) or you can just buy one online, etc. They’ve been watching too many “Gunsmoke” reruns. So let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater and stop pandering based on uninformed personal opinions, let it be an informed opinion. Just like politics, once one dog starts barking the others start in. They don’t know why they’re barking, they just know their buddies are barking. We get it, you don’t like guns but you need to get over it. They aren’t going anywhere unless the government comes to take them from you. And if that happens, that’s the reason for the Second Amendment.
