Regarding the editorial, “Celebrating a timeless gift”: Preserving our natural heritage through donations such as the Holton family’s conservation easement adjacent to Cama Beach State Park is truly a gift to the future.
The editorial writer, however, failed to note that the current Cama Beach State Park is a 464-acre jewel secured through a combination of donation and sale by sisters Karen Hamalainen and Sandra Worthington, the daughters of Muriel and Lee Risk, who operated the site as a modest fishing resort. The refurbished cabins there were part of the resort.
Our collective gratitude to Hamalainen, Worthington and the Holtons will no doubt increase with time as our access to our natural heritage decreases. Consider your little piece of paradise — might it be donated to the commons?
