Down the hatch: With about 30,000 spectators cheering them on, 30 people competed Friday in the 99th annual Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest on Coney Island, New York (Page A6).

The winner scarfed down nearly six dozen hot dogs, or just a few more than your brother in law ate before he excused himself and disappeared in the bathroom for the rest of the party.

Killer BOB deal: An Everett home that was a filming location for David Lynch’s 1990-91 TV series “Twin Peaks” is on the real estate market, and you can tour Laura Palmer’s bedroom during an open house Sunday (Page A1).

And if you’ve neither seen nor heard of “Twin Peaks,” all you really need to know is that its story line is one of the few things that’s more confusing and frustrating than the real estate escrow process.

Don’t know much about history: On this day in 1954, a young singer named Elvis Presley recorded “That’s All Right” at Sun Records in Memphis, Tennessee (Today in History, Page A2).

After hearing the song, music industry pundits scoffed that it would never make teenagers throw away their Bing Crosby records.
