When I read about the wreck on U.S. 2 that injured several people, I could understand how it happened. The driver said she turned her attention to the backseat to scold some kids for misbehaving in moving traffic. When she turned back to traffic it had stopped and it was too late. This kind of accident happens all the time. We have all had close calls like this at some degree.
There is no money in a simple ticket for causing this accident for bad timing. But blaming it on smoking pot opens the door for lots of lucrative businesses. The drug counselors. The attorneys that will represent the defendants. The real estate moguls that rent out the space to have the meetings. Snohomish County will have to build a bigger courthouse. We have allowed the people who don’t have a clue about pot to make the decisions.
I have talked to well-respected people who have taken classes on drugs over several years to advance in law enforcement. They saw the movie “Refer Madness” and still believe people will think they can fly after smoking pot. The fact is that most people who smoke pot are quality people who don’t come to the defense of victims like this woman because they want to keep it private. While in the meantime the media focuses on the idiots who don’t represent the true story.
