It is difficult to know what we as individuals can do to make a difference regarding the continuing assault rifle massacres. However, one action each one of us can take is to refuse to shop at businesses that continue to sell assault rifles and to let those businesses know we will not purchase any products from them until they stop selling products that are designed to quickly rip apart multiple humans.
Recently, there was a newspaper flyer for a business in Marysville advertising products such as flannel shirts, wood stoves and an AK-15 assault rifle.
Australia banned assault rifles in 1996 after a mass shooting in which 35 people were killed and 23 wounded. Owners of assault weapons were required to turn in their rifles for which they were compensated. There has not been a single mass shooting for 22 years in Australia since that ban! Australia also has 29-day waiting period for the purchase of any firearms.
While our state and federal governments will not move as hard and fast as Australia did, we as individuals can make our voices heard quickly through our pocketbooks.
