This is our third vote on this issue. The people have said no twice before. Through out this ordeal it appears my city, continues to violate RCW 42.17A555. Which basically states that you can’t use public money to politic.
The city has continued, at city expense, to publish flyers and the city newsletter “The City Happenings” that only provide only one point of view. It’s actually not just that they are one-sided, they also use “scare” tactics to convince people to vote their way.
The city is aware that there is a organized opposition, and they know that we have made an alternative proposal. (Less money.) The city also knows how to contact us.
There has even been a complaint filed with the The Washington State Public Disclosure Commission. I believe that this complaint was filed in March, but the city continuities violate this RCW. Even on April 5 I received a large slick “flyer” in the mail touting their party line and ignoring any alternative ideas.
It is difficult for citizens, of modest means, to battle issues when the opposing side is using public funds and resources illegally. We merely want a fair field of play! Perhaps your editor considers this subject worthy of an article.
