I knew it years ago and I see it today, the retail expansions on 88th Street in Marysville have now created a traffic congestion problem.
Recent changes at the Winco parking lot intersection have only made these problems worse and afternoon traffic is slowly coming to a gridlock situation where drivers are essentially cutting each other off to get through this mess.
Add any freight trains to the 88th Street crossing and traffic is backing up to I-5 in the eastbound direction.
Yes, this is a problem area and has been for years but the developers need to redesign the thoroughfares prior to building and expanding.
Now, there are more fast-food restaurants and hotels that are going to be adding hundreds of more cars to this intersection and area and this problem is only getting worse. Without more lanes, better intersection controls or adding routes, this will become an area that will be very difficult to access and support the businesses that are there.
Drivers stuck in these parking lots and intersections are well aware of this problem and it’s obvious that a traffic solution is needed before any more development is completed.
Once these new hotels and restaurants are opened up, Marysville residents and commuters will see a dramatic impact here.
Additional off-ramps further north on I-5 will allow vehicles to cross the tracks and continue east and west but these changes are years away.
Its time for revisions now.
