So after milking cows, John Koster has been milking the taxpayers, taking compensation for a variety of public positions (“For $585,000, county settles John Koster’s free-speech suit,” The Herald, May 16). Now, he has milked the taxpayers through the county council — his old cow. This cow paid him more than a half-million dollars, rather than defend its position, against a lawsuit he filed to continue the flow of milk, and claiming he was improperly let go. Worse, some of the council were involved in the decision to let Koster go. Were they wrong then? If not, why pay this milker?
Seems all the county does is squeeze more milk to everyone who utters the word lawsuit. This inept council has created a feeder situation, which has trained people that it will pay, not defend. Risk management, as per Brian Sullivan? NO!
Risk management is absent in the first place, since the county continuously settles and pays out on any claim it sees. The county is either completely inept for letting these situations give birth, or they are using Pavlovian techniques: sue/demand and we pay. This county, while denying any wrongdoing, has paid out millions of our milk dollars year after year on these claims. What a disgrace. What a waste. Like Shawna Forde, I cherish the day I don’t hear the name Koster.
