Just try passing a note now, kid: Everett School District officials are planning a network of video cameras at its schools that can be monitored from its new offices now under construction. The video feeds could be made available to school staff and law enforcement.
Recognizing their financial responsibility to district taxpayers, Everett school officials decided against the pricier squadron of aerial surveillance drones.
Why, oh why? Despite an eighth-inning rally, the Mariners lost Sunday’s game and the weekend series, 2-1, to the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs, who have not won a National League pennant since 1945, can blame the Curse of the Billy Goat, after the team barred a bar owner’s goat from the stadium that year because of its odor.
A similar but less-familiar curse hobbles Seattle. A grizzled M’s fan, still angered by the trade of shortstop Omar Vizquel in 1993, cursed the team when the Mariner Moose spilled his beer.
Don’t know much about history: On this day in 1980, “O Canada” was proclaimed the national anthem of Canada.
“O Canada” beat out Canadian progressive rock legend Rush’s “Cygnus X-1 (Parts I and II),” because of its 28-minute length, But judges did give it points because it was easier to sing than “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
