In The Herald’s Oct. 15 Q&A with the Everett mayoral candidates, I noticed an important difference between our two candidates.
Cassie Franklin had a clear, well-thought-out answer for every question.
Judy Tuohy, on the other hand, said, “I don’t know” four times in response to 21 questions. She also said:
“I’ve never had all that much information. You need to be well informed.” (on where to make possible budget cuts).
“I’ve got to figure that out.” (About how to capitalize on tourism.)
“I haven’t seen all of it.” (The plan for upzoning parts of Everett.)
“I haven’t seen the whole proposal.” (On whether to allow home growing of marijuana.)
Judy Tuohy is one my neighbors. I have met her, she is a very nice lady with deep family ties in Everett. Everyone appreciates the fine work she has done with the Schack Art Center and many other civic projects. Of course she has many friends and admirers.
Cassie Franklin is also one of my neighbors, and I have met her. She is also a very nice lady. But just as importantly, Cassie knows where she stands on the issues. She has great strength of character, deep compassion, a clear, realistic vision for Everett, and the proven ability to form strong teams of competent people who work very well together and get the job done. She has a solid, workable set of plans for guiding our city through these difficult times. Cassie Franklin should be our next mayor.
