I am writing to you in regard to the Everett Youth Symphony Orchestras. This is a nonprofit organization that has been a staple in the community for 51 years. EYSO allows the youths of the community to grow by promoting a musical understanding through a wonderful orchestra program.
My daughter has been playing the violin with this program for five years and I have seen a wonderful growth in her appreciation and understanding of music.
The primary source of funding to pay for conductors, coaches, sheet music and rehearsal space is tuition. Other sources of income include donations and support form community businesses.
Due to a lack of funding it is possible that this could be EYSO’s last year.
The only way for this program to survive is by raising tuition about 75 percent, the staff taking a 35 percent pay reduction and taking away two scholarships and the tuition assistance program, which does help many families.
I believe that we can raise awareness and save this wonderful program by letting the community know if ways to support EYSO. Information is available by going to its website, www.eyso.info or calling the business line at 425-258-2028.
This is an outstanding program that needs to continue for the youths in our community
