Regarding the 2501 building on 25th Street and Colby Avenue, I am an 11th-grader at Everett High and I love the beautiful, old apartment building south from the Commercial building at school.
I enjoy looking at it out my math classroom window; admiring how nicely it fits in the lot and with the overall aesthetic of downtown Everett. I was greatly saddened when I heard that it was in danger of being replaced with another, new building. I love having historic buildings in Everett to give our downtown more character.
As a young person, watching older buildings be replaced with new, bigger ones concerns me because I am a history fan and would prefer having unique structures instead of new ones reminiscent of stock photos. I know I am home because I recognize the buildings that make up Everett. I would hate to see it slowly turn into a cookie-cutter town.
I realize that we need more places for citizens to live in Everett but I would urge you to please consider preserving this building and construct apartments somewhere else nearby, perhaps on a vacant lot. Thank you for considering my proposal.
