Trump hammers immigrants?
I was appalled at the headline on the front page of the Wednesday’s Herald, “Trump hammers immigrants.”
This is not what I heard from President Trump’s State of the Union Address. He pledged to offer a path of citizenship for 1.8 million illegal immigrants. This does not sound like “hammering immigrants.” It sounds like a more than fair offer. It sounds generous and compassionate.
There is a difference between a “right” and a “privilege.” A “right” says “I’m entitled to this, I deserve it, I earned it.” A privilege is a gift.
The illegal immigrants do not have a right to be given citizenship. It is not owed them, it is a privilege given to them. Is this “hammering immigration?”
We all have a right to our own opinion.
We often confuse fact with our own value system. An example would be it is warm out today. Warm may be different in Alaska compared to Florida. It is a matter of perspective. Facts are objective. Three times three always equals nine. You can say it equals eight, but it is nine.
The Herald said “Trump hammers immigrants.” Was this fact or opinion?
I want the paper to report the facts!
