Laundry is fun because I get to see it run and choose the cycle and options, such as the soil level, wash temperature, (it is best to select cold rinses on most models), the number of rinses, whether to use fabric softener or not, and the water level.
If your washer is HE (High Efficiency) your washer will lock during the drain cycle. On old washers, the lid locks before the wash cycle, and they only have the default water level, and wash/rinse temperature. On the dryer, you spin the dial and can choose options such as dry time and temperature. On LG dryers, you choose the wrinkle prevent, temperature, dry time, dry level, and cycle signal.
O n older dryers such as Amana or Admiral by Maytag, options are not available except for cycle signal. The washer will turn off and drain automatically if paused for 10 minutes when the lid is opened. If your washer has a two-way agitator attached to the bottom of the tub, you can’t spin the agitator by hand. If your washer has a two-way bottom agitator and one-way top agitator, you can spin the bottom by hand freely. The top agitator should spin one way and not the other. If you spin your top agitator freely, it’s busted! My favorite washer is the LG top load because it has lots of options and it has a clear lid. Happy washing!
