High cost driving away customers

Gee, spirit sales are down after skyrocketing taxes under privatization. What a shock. Not! (Monday article, “Sales of spirits fall in first month under privatization”).

I don’t know who the fool was that misunderstood the public’s desire to get the state out of the liquor business with our willingness to pay higher taxes for the privilege, but they must be politicians. I had a friend bring two 750 ml bottles of flavored brandy from out of state (another state that is not in the liquor business, either.) My cost was just over $24, total. I bought just one 750 ml bottle of the same thing in Washington, the same month, and paid over $22. Let’s see … $12 a bottle or $22 a bottle. Where do you think I’ll be placing my future purchases?
