Apple on Monday unveiled sweeping changes to the software-powering iPhones and iPads, including a simpler user interface that will scrap “skeuomorphic” design: the term used to describe things like the simulated lined paper in the notebook app and the faux-wood bookshelves in iBooks.

Couch cloud: Microsoft’s successor to the Xbox 360 should be connected to the Internet 24 hours a day for optimum performance, the company says in touting the product at a trade show.
Somewhat coincidentally, the typical Xbox user is tethered to the living-room couch about 22 hours a day.
Mediterranean mindset: Chrysler is recalling about 15,000 new Dodge Dart compact cars because the engines can stall in cold weather.
That’s no surprise, given the cars’ Italian origins. They’re probably just deciding to go on strike because it’s too cold to work.
