The myth of fingerprints: Among the new technology on the high-end iPhone that Apple unveiled Tuesday is its “Touch ID,” which will read a user’s fingerprint instead of requiring a password to be entered.
This replaces the current “Smudge ID,” which uses Mom or Dad’s memory of a child’s greasy fingerprints to identify who’s responsible for downloading Miley Cyrus MP3s from iTunes.
Smoke gets in your eyes: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say its graphic anti-tobacco ad campaign convinced 200,000 smokers to quit. The ads included stark images of cancer’s effect on the body.
The CDC said another 100,000 non-smokers lost weight because the ads put them off their lunch.
Speak softly and carry a cruise missile: President Barack Obama asked Congress to delay a vote on a military strike in Syria to allow for a diplomatic effort that will persuade Syria to give up its chemical weapons.
In exchange for the weapons, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he would give Syrian leader Bashar Assad a very nice Super Bowl ring he recently acquired that he “can kill somebody with.”
