I just got off the phone with Rep. Rick Larsen’s Washington, D.C., office, where I questioned the phone worker about his position on health-care reform. I found out that Mr. Larsen is against HR 676, the only real health-care reform measure in Congress, a pure single payer bill. He is also against HR 3200, the watered-down version supported by most Democrats in Congress.
When I asked the phone person why he was against health-care reform, they starting reading me his talking points, which sounded like a flier filled with misinformation from the health-care/insurance industry. I was informed that Mr. Larsen is standing with Republicans in Congress and does not support HR3200 because it includes a single payer option.
Mr. Larsen was sent to Washington, D.C., to represent his constituents’ views, not corporate interests. Many polls show that most people support a single payer option; it is only a small number of those on the very right and running corporations that do not. He is clearly representing the Republican point of view; and not the majority of the people who voted for him.
He has proven by his votes in the past for American job-crushing free-trade deals that he cares more for corporate profit than his constituents’ well-being. It is time to get a new representative who will vote with their constituents in the next election. Meanwhile, call his office (425-252-3188, or 202-225-2605) and let him know that we want him to support us, not his corporate fat cat buddies, or he will be looking for a new job in 2010. By the way, I tried calling his local office first, but they were uninformed of his reasoning for voting against the people’s interest and in favor of his corporatist cronies.
