What does the knowledge that a school is a gun-free zone impart to a reprobate mind bent on destruction? It lets them know that they can enter the facility unimpeded and unchallenged; that they can control the situation to fruition, or until the balance of power is changed.
If protection of the innocent is the objective, it must come from within; it must come from those who are on-site long before the threat arrives. Allowing teachers who are qualified, and voluntarily willing, to carry a weapon is a good idea. Much like the air-marshal program, success would lie in the fact that there could be one, or more, armed persons present at any given time. What is not a good idea is passing knee-jerk draconian gun-control laws that specifically target law abiding gun owners.
Congress has routinely passed gun laws that, to me, seem intentionally destined to fail. And then what? They pass more laws. More laws beget more laws yet none of them will make a difference. They will not bring back those killed at Sandy Hook, nor will they prevent another mass-killing. However, if protection of the innocent is the objective, there is one behavioral-based cause of infant mortality that we could change.
According to the Census Bureau, there were 1,211,500 legally induced abortions reported in 2009 (the latest figures available http://www.census.gov/compendia/statab/2012/tables/12s0103.pdf). That is approximately 160 percent of the population of Snohomish County — or 88 percent of the American war-causalities incurred in the last century — terminated — on an annual basis.
Why is it that so many high profile gun-control advocates are so vehemently pro-abortion?
