Regarding the Friday article, “Judge orders removal of historic lookout in wilderness”: Having enjoyed the Green Mountain hike on several occasions, I would like to comment on the judge’s decision concerning the lookout removal.
This is a beautiful hike where you can see all the way to Canada, so his idea of increased traffic isn’t due to a structure.
Because the lookout has been there since 1933 (where were the environmentalists then?), it has become part of the landscape and, historically, adds to the area. And now, some Montana-based conservation group comes in and says it needs to be removed to preserve the wilderness character. Really!
