Many reasons drivers use spots

Regarding the letter, “Drivers of disabled don’t need spot”: Obvious to those of us who live in the real world, handicapped people who cannot drive can’t all be left at their “destination entrance” while the driver looks for a regular parking spot, so I hope The Herald has its entire staff out looking for the fantasy land that the writer lives in.

Apparently, in her world, there are no wheelchair-bound children, folks with dementia/Alzheimer’s/other cognitive impairments, or other handicapped adults who cannot drive but require constant or near-constant supervision and are in need of the accessibility that a reserved parking spot provides for their family member or caretaker. To declare that ADA accessible parking spots are only for “handicapped drivers” is insulting.
