I read with great interest a recent letter in effect stating that the reason Aaron Reardon is resigning is that he is being “bullied” by Snohomish County Republicans. The letter writer stated that she is 89 years old. In those 89 years I am sure she has seen examples all over the world of real “bullies” that have disregarded the interests of the common folk in order to pursue their own agenda and political power (sound familiar?). Reardon gave his reason for resigning (I’ll believe he is actually resigning when he makes it official with a letter stating his intention to resign) as the stress he and his family are going through due to all the allegations against him. What about the stress he put on his family from his extramarital activities allegedly on the taxpayer’s dime? Can we really afford to overlook Reardon’s personal and political shortcomings just because he has a “D” by his name?
Reardon is resigning because of the corruption, lack of integrity, lack of a moral compass and lack of accountability to the taxpayers in him and the people he has surrounded himself with that has been brought to light. He has never answered questions from investigators or the media. He has hidden behind his lawyers and cohorts and insulated himself from the very people he claims he cares so much about. The fact that he is manipulating his alleged resignation to thwart the people’s right to choose his successor further shows his disregard for the citizens of Snohomish County whom he claims he wants to serve. When he decides to run for another political office further up the Washington political food chain (and I guarantee he will) let’s not be naïve. Reardon is counting on this and the “short memories” of voters. Let’s be caring, informed and active participants in the political process and see to it that Reardon and politicians like him are encouraged to enter the private sector and have to actually work for a living like the rest of us.
