I concur with your Tuesday editorial, “Gough should step down.” I am less quick to minimize the gender bias charges against him, since in my experience with him he used these tactics in tandem with intimidation toward subordinates and those adjacent to city governance.
My own experience with him included his trying this intimidation on me both physically (approaching too close for comfort), and through his declaration that his credentials trumped all other expertise (e.g., “I am a lawyer,” in the context “I know more about this than you”). The mayor simply does not listen. Instead it seems that he just plans a counterattack, and when delivered, that is exactly what it feels like. Yes, he should resign and retain some modicum of dignity.
