The thing that a Nov. 7 letter writer (“Treat them better or say farewell”) and his friends miss is that the auto companies were doing OK until they moved to Mayberry and other venues for their supply chain. It’s true that the new blood running the auto industry wanted to destroy Detroit, but in the process they also destroyed themselves.
They left skilled labor with a living wage to go to a place where they thought they could still draw their big paychecks and bonuses while keeping the labor forces on starvation wages. And on top of that, labor is taxed to give incentives to these big companies.
I hope that the new blood running Boeing takes a closer look before it ends up like the auto companies.
