The proposed Boeing/IAM contract extension, is a “no” vote. Several reasons stand out that support a no vote: 1. One week to form a quality decision is not enough time. This proposal has a career-changing, life-changing impact. 2. Again, it is called “take-aways.” The IAM does not go backward. What did the IAM do, or not do, to receive take-aways? The Boeing Company agreed and signed-off, on the details of our current contract. 3. A $10,000 signing bonus is peanuts, knowing how wealthy now and 11 years from now, the company is. 4. Has management been advised of their cut in pay, cut in their pension, to promote the 777X? From the first levels on up, no one will take a hit. What kind of “family” is that ?
No one wants to say this, but under this contract proposal, it contains a form of blackmail. Telling the IAM to accept this new deal, or bad things will happen to you. Boeing has set a pattern with each new contract: turn the screw to the right, tighter, on the IAM members.
I know people will say, “at least I’ll keep my job.” Well, South Carolina is alive and well. You have already lost and will continue to lose, no matter the direction of this new offer. That’s the new Boeing. Deal with it the best you can, we will continue to build the very best airplane the world knows.
