In the wake of the horrific massacre in Las Vegas on Oct. 1, Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval told a press conference, “There is not much we can do but learn.” Wrong, Governor! Your state doesn’t place restrictions on the “rights” of people to openly carry military assault weapons — not even machine guns — anywhere in public. There is no requirement for firearms registration, no limits on magazine size or amounts of ammunition, nor any restrictions on the purchase of multiple AR-15 or AK-47 military-style rifles.
Plus, the state has no mandated waiting period before purchasing firearms, no restrictions on bringing loaded weapons to a polling place or even into a bar, and although Nevada citizens voted to require background checks for firearm sales between private parties, your attorney general refused to put the regulation into effect.
So yes, Governor, there is plenty that can be done, that should have been done, to limit the carnage one gun nut was able to inflict. Get to it.
