We have been attending Canyon Creek Church’s Easter egg hunt at Bob’s Corn since we moved here four years ago. We have always enjoyed this event, the staff and volunteers are so kind, and my kiddos love all of the activities especially the egg hunt.
That is, they did until this year’s event. The kids had a great time with all of the new activities, they loved the big slide, and the new games. It was fun to see the Easter bunny and his cousin arrive on the fire truck, and the Glacier Peak drum line gave an awesome performance. All the hallmarks of a great day. However, when it came time for the Easter egg hunt, things took a turn.
Sadly, it was the parents that were the culprits. Understandable that parents would want to accompany their kids under the age of 3 or 4, but I saw parents on the field with their 5-, 6- and 7-year-olds, even in the 10- to 12-year-olds hunt. These parents were not just accompanying their kids, some were scooping up massive amounts of eggs, leaving little for the other kids. I saw several kids crying, one little one was saying that she did not get a single egg. Parents were seen bumping into, or pushing little ones out of the way. It was shocking to see, because I’ve never experienced that kind of behavior at this event.
Kudos to Canyon Creek Church and Bob’s Corn for doing such a great job of putting this event on every year, and working hard to make it a wonderful time for our little ones, and it is so appreciated. Shame on the rude parents who ruined a great day for some of those kiddos.
