Promoting porn is inappropriate

Regarding Monday’s article, “‘Fifty Shades’ fans show their love”: Wow. What was the point of this article? Was it to normalize porn for women? To make men whose wives are unfaithful feel guilty for not being happy about it? To make people think that after a certain number of years, a marriage can’t be fulfilling anymore unless you turn to porn? To teach people to give in to any urge they have?

It doesn’t have to be a picture to be pornography, and in fact, the porn of choice for women is often the written word over a picture. I hope that those who wrote and approved this article did so out of ignorance of porn’s destruction, rather than a belief that the subject was normal and appropriate. I hope they never have someone they care about become addicted to porn and lose everything — even the very ability to live life the way they wish because the addiction affected every aspect of their life. Porn is more addictive than chemical drugs; it changes the brain; it leads to depression; it turns people into objects; and actually makes your sexual relationship less fulfilling. These are just a few of the harmful effects of porn in any form. Please go to http://www.fightthenewdrug.org/ to get the facts about porn. I have seen first-hand lives wasted and completely devastated by porn. And, instead of glorifying and normalizing porn, how about an article with scientific, peer-reviewed information about what porn really does?
