I am having a hard time controlling the anger I feel regarding the reinstatement of Officer Carlile to the Marysville Police Force. However tragic, the facts are that Officer Carlile and his wife neglected their children by leaving them unattended in a vehicle containing a loaded gun. A young, unknowing innocent three-year-old boy got ahold of the gun and shot his sister; the neglected girl died.
Officer Carlile and his spouse apparently have been through the prosecutorial process and have been found to have committed no crime. Officer Carlile will be reinstated into his police officer position. Officer Carlile, in fact, fought for this reinstatement after being offered a job as a non-weapon carrying parking officer. Our community has made it clear that the couple committed no offense. What message does that say to the young neglected boy with the gun? Officer Carlile and his wife need to accept some sort of punishment in order to spare their child the future trauma certain to exist. The Carlile’s made a terrible mistake.
