Sugar rush

Games people play, at least for now: The maker of the popular Facebook and Smartphone game “Candy Crush Saga” has filed paperwork for an initial public offering. But investors caution that King Digital Entertainment PLC needs to produce a second hit.

The IPO may raise about $500 million, but something stinks here. Could that be that “FarmVille” we’re smelling, or a flock of “Angry Birds”?

Such an honor: An Italian researcher and ardent fan of Frank Zappa has named a bacterium that once caused acne in humans for the iconoclastic rock musician.

The organism long ago moved from the skin of humans to the bark of grape vines. If it still were causing zits, it would surely be named not for Zappa, but for Justin Bieber.

A new hope: Robinson Cano, the Seattle Mariners’ new franchise player, drew a big crowd on Tuesday, his first workout at spring training.

Spring training vendors said shirts with Cano’s number on them sold much better than last week’s featured item: authgraphed copies of “I Am Franklin Guitterez’s Ailmentary Canal.”
