How refreshing it was to read the article about Providence and Swedish Health and Services teaming up. (Monday, “Swedish, Providence put their partnership to work.”) Faced with the dilemma of how to compete with the new stand-alone emergency room opened by Swedish, Providence chose instead to partner with them to make critical services available to Everett and surrounding areas. By sharing resources and equipment with Swedish, Providence was able to use the money they saved on making them a competitive facility and put it back into much needed patient care.
By partnering up, we in Snohomish County will finally have critical services that are much needed. Having a first class trauma center will be a great addition to the North end, allowing families to be closer to their injured loved ones. Having been in that situation with my own child, I can’t tell you how frustrating it was to have to drive to Harborview in a very congested downtown Seattle. Thank you Providence and Swedish for making this happen.
