Schools are only as great what we do to support them.
Working 16 plus years at Totem Falls Elementary in the Snohomish School District as an administrative assistant was the most rewarding and difficult job in my 47 years of working, one that blessed me beyond imagination. I wish to thank everyone for a memorable sendoff to retirement. The whole school gathered for a group photo, which was then beautifully framed and presented to me along with many gifts of appreciation from the staff, parents and children. Students now grown and working stopped to quickly catch up. A very special thank you for the generous donations made in my honor at our recent PTO auction along with art by a very talented parent, Chris B.
The contribution of time and work is made daily by parents in partnership with our PTO. Thank you for volunteering countless hours to support our staff and school.
It is sad some people feel they should not pay taxes to continue funding schools after retirement. The children you pay taxes to educate today will in short time become employed and paying into the system that currently supports you. Consider volunteering to see how much work staff do each day to educate our children.
A special thank you to the classified support staff that include office personnel, para-educators and custodians as they too deserve great appreciation. Also the amazing recess staff, who manage 200 to 250 students three times a day, working to keep them safe in addition to managing our school job program which instills confidence and pride in students.
Teachers work so many more hours than you may be aware of, constantly upgrading their skills to reach each individual student and style of learner. They model kindness, good values and social skills crucial to children as they grow. I am honored to have worked with some of the best.
Love you forever, Totem Falls Elementary community.
P.S. Thank you Kirke Sievers, former Snohomish County treasurer, you were a great typing teacher!
