Slides! Slides and more slides! This year has been devastating for folks wanting to take the Sounder or those wanting to ship freight via train. Houses have been lost as well as valuable trees and soil. Fortunately, no lives have been lost. While the county government agencies are perplexed and reexamining the slide problem yet again, what truly needs examination is the Growth Management Plan that is allowing the intense development in these fragile areas.
Certain bluffs and areas, especially along the vistas of Everett, Mukilteo and Edmonds have been handed over to developers as if they could be treated like inner city properties. Mother Nature is simply having her say. Plans need to be rethought and environmental principles properly applied. These areas require fewer, if any, homes, careful low impact development design, and many more trees retained and replanted. The County Council, Planning Commission and Planning Department must take heed. Mother Nature is speaking loudly and clearly…
