Hoorah!! A new $1.6 million dollar widening of I-405 reduces a commuter’s travel time a few minutes! It now takes him only 75 minutes to go 5 miles! Wow. That’s 15 miles per hour. Could almost make that schedule on a bike, in sunny L.A.!
Build it and they will come. No matter how big the freeway is, it will attract traffic until it is congested again. Stop commuting! Cities need to create inexpensive living quarters near job locations! Abetting commuting is damn near criminal; certainly regarding the health of humans and the planet. (A commuter tax, like London’s, is called for)
Note: Some driver apps now tell drivers to switch to local streets, if the freeway is jammed. Watch out little kids in the neighborhood! We know for sure that a frustrated driver will not want to slow down in town. Cities are going to sue Apple over this, just as Everett sued Purdue Pharma.
P.S. Returning home on Rucker at 23 mph, I was passed by a driver, who zoomed around me. Why was he on our local street? Was he headed for Marysville? Arlington? Stanwood? Probably.
