As a college student at Western Washington University, just a few quarters away from graduation, it is utterly sickening to see that the society and work force I will soon enter into is content with corporations donating such ridiculous amount of money to pave the way towards the destruction of our democracy.
Every dollar spent by special interests is a vote. A citizen like you or me receives one vote per election as well as the minuscule amount of time and money we can personally donate to each candidate or cause. A corporation however, now has an almost unlimited amount of times their voice is heard. Allowing billionaires like the Koch brothers to donate so much money undermines our democracy and reduces my vote to very little.
The Republican party’s attempt to go beyond the damage that was done by Citizens United and striking down the limit on the total amount that wealthy persons may give to candidates and political parties is absolutely outrageous.
I hope that the generations before me as well as mine wake up and call for an end to the huge amounts people can donate to campaigns. My vote is being taken away by the corruption and greediness of politics.
