An open letter to our legislators regarding quality of life:
As the divide increases between the working class and the more privileged, I earnestly ask of our legislators, many of whom are included in the more privileged class, to please remember that there are small things over which you as writers of the law do have power. And the greatest of these is daylight saving time. I implore you to find some way to abolish this dastardly tradition that forces the working class to get up an hour early every morning from March to November, with no visible nightfall as incentive to go to bed on time.
Sleep deprivation and disruption to our natural circadian rhythms is a major health, education and transportation issue. This weekend marks the arrival of the dreaded DST. It cannot be too much to ask for this one small kindness for the working class: For optimal health and safety, better traffic flow, better learning conditions, please bring into effect year-round standard time.
