I won’t mention my friend’s name but it just came to my attention that a very dear single mother who lost her hospitalized young son to a common flu has a very serious problem with our Social Security system.
Her son passed just over seven months ago. She informed Social Security that her son had passed, which is what she’s required to do. A very serious mistake was made and she was reported as deceased instead of her son. This has gone unresolved and she had a long-standing benefit that was terminated.
All contact with our Social Security system has resulted with delays and no resolution. What should it take? Seems that this should have been an easy and expeditious fix. Are our government employees just overworked or not empowered enough to complete what needs to be done? This mother has several other young children at home and needs this additional support. Does it take, since it’s a federal agency, asking Patty Murray to intervene or enlisting the media like “Ask Jesse” to bring this to a broader forum.
Makes you wonder why doing the right thing is so hard to do.
