Just as well that Dave wasn’t here to see this: The Seattle Mariners in their home opener Friday night allowed an early 11-0 lead to Cleveland, with pitchers Jason Vargas and Tom Wilhelmsen giving up 10 runs in the fourth inning alone.
Along with naming First Avenue S. in front of Safeco Field for departed and beloved announcer Dave Niehaus on Friday night, Seattle also announced that the Alaskan Way Viaduct replacement would be named the Vargas-Wilhelmsen Tunnel for the hole they dug.

Bringing bad things to light: The IRS recently awarded a whistle-blowing accountant $4.5 million after his tip that his financial services company owed the government $20 million in unpaid taxes. The IRS program awards up to 30 percent of what’s recouped.
Psst. IRS. General Electric made $5.1 billion in the U.S. last year, and didn’t pay a dime in taxes. What’s that information worth to you?

Would rather spend time with the snake: The venomous Egyptian cobra that went missing two weeks ago at the Bronx Zoo, only to be found curled up in a dark corner, has been named: Mia, for “missing in action.”
