The Everett Silvertips pared their roster down to 35 following Sunday’s Green and Grey Game.

The group includes 15-year-old defenseman Montana Onyebuchi, who is not eligible to make the team, but is sticking around to skate with the big club this week.

All good things must come to an end.

It is with some sadness that I announce that after 12 years I am stepping aside as the Herald's Everett Silvertips beat reporter. I am taking over our Seattle professional sports beat, bringing to an end what's been the most fulfilling 12-year stint of my working life.

Leaving the Tips beat isn't easy because this is my baby. I was hired in 2003 specifically to cover the new junior hockey team in Everett, and I feel a...

I'm back for a few days, so here's another update of Silvertips news that happened while I was away.

First off, we're on the verge of the fourth month of the Auston Matthews watch, and we still don't know where he will play next season. The U-18 World Championships ended on April 26, and ever since then we've been a week or two away from his decision, yet it's still to come.

July has arrived, and that means something of a hiatus for me. I'll be gone much of the summer between now and when training camp opens on Aug. 27, so this space may not be the best place for up-to-date Silvertips news the next eight weeks. The Herald's Silvertips page will probably be the best source of news, whether it involves Auston Matthews or anything else. I also have pockets of when I'll be working, so I'll have...

Now that the NHL draft is over, next up on the agenda for the Silvertips is the CHL import draft, which takes place Tuesday. The import draft distributes European players among the CHL's 60 teams to help fill each team's two import roster spots.

The WHL is last in the rotation this year, and the WHL has more teams than either the OHL or QMJHL. Therefore Everett, which had the fourth-best record in the WHL last season, is...

Rounds two through seven of the NHL draft took place Saturday in Sunrise, Fla., and there were no Everett players selected. That means defenseman Noah Juulsen, who was picked 26th overall in Friday's first round, was the only Silvertip picked this year.

Noah Juulsen, first-round NHL draft pick The buzz heading into this year's NHL draft, as far as the Everett Silvertips were concerned, was whether defenseman Noah Juulsen had raised his stock enough to sneak into the first round. The answer to that question turned out to be, "Yes."

The NHL draft has arrived. The first round takes place this evening in Sunrise, Fla. The big question regarding the Silvertips with this year's draft is whether defenseman Noah Juulsen will be selected in the first round. Juulsen saw his draft stock rise steadily throughout the 2014-15 season, and right now he seems to be 50-50 bet on whether he gets picked in tonight's first round. What do you...

For those of you hanging on every twist in the Auston Matthews saga, here's another one. Reports came out Tuesday that immigration issues are delaying Matthews' signing with ZSC Lions in Switzerland. It seems a foreigner must have one year of professional experience in order to qualify for a work permit to play in Switzerland, and Matthews doesn't have that. Gregg Drinnan has a good overview of...

It's been a rough few weeks for the Silvertips on the recruiting trail. First, they seemed to have the inside track on star prospect Auston Matthews until the European professional leagues got involved, and now they're dealing with the interminable wait while speculation continues to favor Europe.

Well, it's 5 p.m. and there's been nothing from the Tips with regards to Auston Matthews. Everett general manager Garry Davidson said Wednesday morning that Matthews would make his decision between Everett and Switzerland either Wednesday or Thursday, but we haven't heard from Matthews' camp today. Attempts to contact Davidson on Thursday went unanswered.

What we did get Thursday was this tweet from Sportsnet reporter Damien Cox:

Well, it turns out we didn't get an Auston Matthews announcement this week as many expected. But while we await the news on a potential future Everett player, we have some fun news about a former Everett player as Kellan Tochkin was named the new coach of the Jr. Silvertips 16U AAA team.

Auston Matthews' future remains up in the air. The superstar prospect is now considering three options for playing next season: Everett, the NCAA and the Swiss professional league. There were reports over the weekend that he had already signed with a Swiss team, then those were refuted by statements from Matthews and his "adviser."

It was an eventful bantam draft day for the Silvertips. The Tips drafted 13 players and traded two players away. Everett's picks were:

Second round (40th overall): Brett Kemp, center, 5-9, 140, Yorkton, Saskatchewan
Third round (59th overall): Ian Walker, defenseman, 6-1, 155, Vancouver, B.C.
Third round (62nd overall): Montana Onyebuchi, defenseman, 6-1, 180, Dugald, Manitoba
