Los Angeles forward/center Candace Parker and Indiana forward Tamika Catchings were named the Western Conference and Eastern Conference players of the week on Tuesday respectively.

Parker has led the Sparks to a 3-1 start in 2012 and led the Sparks with a 20.5 points per game average. She also averaged 7.8 rebounds and 2.7 blocks.

For 10 years, before the start of every WNBA season, general manager from each team conduct a survey which makes predictions for the upcoming campaign. The results of this year's survey are in and the Seattle Storm earned the top spot in several categories.

The Seattle Storm open the 2012 WNBA season on Friday night at KeyArena against the Los Angeles Sparks. On Wednesday, they announced their 11-player opening day roster, making two final cuts, releasing guards Allie Quigley and Ashley Corral.

The Storm also placed guard Silvia Dominguez on the suspended list in order to maintain her rights. Former WNBA MVP Lauren Jackson, who is part of the final roster will not join the team until after the Summer Olympics in August.

The Seattle Storm announced on Tuesday that they have waived guards Jacqua Williams, Dellena Criner and forward Rachel Allison.

The roster now stands at 16 players with 10 players currently in camp. The other six players will report to the team when their overseas commitments are over.

The Storm have exhibition games on May 11 at Tulsa and May 13 at home against Los Angeles. Seattle opens the regular season at home on May 18 against the Sparks.

The defending WNBA champion Minnesota Lynx used the 19th overall selection to draft Gonzaga’s Kayla Standish. Standish was a standout forward for the Bulldogs, who averaged 16.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per game as a senior.

The New York Liberty used the final pick in the draft (36th overall) to select Katelan Redmon. Redmon started her career at the University of Washington, before transferring to Gonzaga.

The Seattle Storm used their highest draft pick in 10 years to select Tennessee guard/forward Shekinna Stricklen on Monday.

The Storm selected Stricklen with the second overall draft pick, the highest the team has picked since they drafted Lauren Jackson (2001) and Sue Bird (2002) with the first overall pick in the draft.

The Los Angeles Sparks used this year’s No. 1 overall pick to draft Stanford’s Nnemkadi Ogwumike.

Phoenix Mercury forward Penny Taylor will miss the 2012 WNBA season after tearing her left ACL in a March 29 Euroleague game. Taylor will need surgery and then begin the rehabilitation process.

"We are devastated by the news of Penny's injury," President and COO of the Mercury Amber Cox said. "We plan to do everything possible to aide in Penny's rehabilitation and look forward to her full recovery and continuing her career with the Phoenix Mercury."

Seattle Storm point guard Sue Bird has been named to the 2012 U.S. Women's Olympic team. USA Basketball announced the 11 members of the team on Friday.

It will be the third Olympic Games for Bird, who was part of the gold-medal winning teams in Athens (2004) and Beijing (2008).

Before the Seattle Storm open the 2012 WNBA season May 18 at KeyArena against the Los Angeles Sparks, they will play two preseason games to prepare.

The Storm announced their preseason schedule on Monday. Seattle travels to Tulsa on May 11 to face the Shock, before returning home for a Mother's Day preseason match up with the Sparks at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 13.

Seattle Storm head coach and general manager Brian Agler announced that Rachel Allison and Alysha Clark have been added to the team's 2012 training camp roster on Friday.

Allison played at Baylor from 2005-09 scoring 1,126 points and grabbing 850 rebounds in her career. She currently plays for Ciudad de Burgos in the Spanish Liga Feminina averaging 13.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.

The Seattle Storm acquire forward Victoria Dunlap from the Washington Mystics on Tuesday in exchange for center Ashley Robinson.

Dunlap was selected by the Mystics with the 11th overall pick in the 2011 WNBA draft. She averaged 2.3 points and 1.7 rebounds per game in 26 games as a rookie. Dunlap posted her career-highs of 19 points and eight rebounds in a July 3 game against the Storm.

Seattle Storm point guard Sue Bird was one of 21 finalists to compete for Team USA in the London Olympics.

The pool of players was announced on Monday.

"Now that we're down to 21 finalists, you look around and you see a group of players that have tremendous experience," said Geno Auriemma, the head coach of Team USA and head coach at the University of Connecticut.

The Seattle Storm announced on Thursday that the starting backcourt of Sue Bird and Tanisha Wright have re-signed multi-year contracts to remain with the team for the foreseeable future.

"Re-signing Sue and Tanisha was a priority in terms of what we wanted to accomplish during the offseason," Storm head coach and general manager Brian Agler said. "They are the best backcourt in the WNBA and a critical part of building a roster than can compete in 2012 and beyond."

The Washington Mystics announced on Wednesday that they have acquired guard Noelle Quinn from the Los Angeles Sparks in exchange for forward Marissa Coleman.

We are excited to have Noelle join the Mystics as we look forward to the upcoming 2012 season," Mystics general manager and head coach Trudi Lacey said. "She is an experienced combo guard that brings a high basketball IQ and plays multiple positions."

The Seattle Storm announced on Tuesday that they have re-signed guard Allie Quigley to a qualifying offer.

Quigley, who was a restricted free agent, has been added to the Storm's training camp roster.

Quigley is a four-year veteran of the WNBA and spent the 2011 season with the Storm. She appeared in seven games, including one during the Western Conference semifinals.

The Storm also waived guard Alison Lacey and renounced the rights to guard Jessica Bibby and forward Katie Gearlds.

The Seattle Storm sent forwards Swin Cash and Le’coe Willingham, as well as the 23rd overall pick in the second round of the 2012 WNBA draft to the Chicago Sky in exchange for the No.2 overall draft pick in that same draft the team announced on Monday.

Storm head coach and general manager Brian Agler met with members of the front office after the team was eliminated from the playoffs by the Phoenix Mercury and the group decided some changes needed to be made.
