EDMONDS -- For nearly 30 years, the state annually issued awards to a few of the high school seniors who were ranked in the top 1 percent in Washington. They were the best of the best, honored not only for their academic achievements, but for their leadership and community service.

MONROE -- If Snohomish wished to advance in the 4A District 1 softball tournament, they would need to win twice on Thursday afternoon. The Panthers had no problem accomplishing this goal by defeating Kamiak 10-0 in their first game and Cascade 11-1 in the loser-out game that followed.
