Everyone is invited to this, the first of four public meetings, where neighborhood leaders will introduce the project and discuss hiring a landscape architect.

The Forgotten Creek project was helped by a $10,000 grant from the city of Everett to design improvements, including public access, to the watershed ravine that runs between Kromer Avenue and Bond Street.

Lakewood

The Lakewood School District will hold a community forum at 7 tonight in the Lakewood Middle School commons, 16800 16th Drive NE, Arlington. The board plans to discuss potential impacts if there is a second levy failure.

On March 9, a four-year levy proposal to renew the district’s maintenance and operations levy failed with 55 percent approval. It needed a 60 percent supermajority.

By state law, school districts get two chances a year to pass levies.

The levy would provide almost $1 of every $5 spent educating students in the Lakewood district.

Lynnwood

The City of Lynnwood is filing an appeal with the state Supreme Court regarding a methadone clinic proposed in the city.

CRC Health, a San Diego, Calif.-based company, came to Lynnwood’s planning department in 2002 to apply to open a methadone clinic in the Alderwood Professional Building, 18631 Alderwood Mall Blvd. While city staff determined the site is within appropriate zoning for a methadone clinic, the City Council objected to the location because it is near the Toys “R” Us store and the Interurban Trail. The council adopted an ordinance prohibiting such a clinic from being located within 250 feet of a school or public park. But the law was adopted after CRC filed application with the city.

In April 2003 a Snohomish County Superior Court judge ruled the application must be processed under the city’s zoning laws that existed when the application came in, which means it is not subject to the new law.

The city appealed that decision to the state Court of Appeals but recently lost that appeal.

The city is now asking the state Supreme Court to take the case.

Marysville

The City Council will not meet on Monday.

The next council meeting will be at 7 p.m. April 5 in the second-floor council chambers at City Hall, 1049 State Ave.
